Based on your first chunk of reading, discuss Anne Frank's perspective, What has shaped it and how?

In the diary of the young girl Anne Frank writes about how her life and perspective have changed. The diary tells me that she is getting very frustrated with the other people in the annex, that she keeps all of her emotions inside of her and that those emotions are bubbling to the surface, and Anne even believes that she is all alone in the world at only the age of 13. One text that really stuck out to me was "Prominent citizens-innocent people- are thrown into prison to await their fate. If the saboteur can't be traced, the Gestapo simply put about five hostages against the wall. Announcements of their deaths appear in the paper frequently. The English radio speaks of their being gassed" (Frank 39). Anne, a 13 year old girl is hearing and learning about how thousands. Millions. Of innocent Jews are being gasses, bombed, shot, even tortured for something they can't control. All of this talk leaves Anne to wonder why she is to fortunate that her family found this annex and she starts to go a little bit crazy. Also she is forced to keep her feelings bottled up such as: "I would like to shout to Margot, Van Daan, Dussel-and Daddy too-¨Leave me in peace, let me sleep one night at least without my pillow being wet with tears, my eyes burning and my head throbbing. let me get away from it all, preferably away from the world!¨¨ (Frank 64). Anne thinks she is forced to keep all of her emotions inside of her because she doesn't think anyone would listen respectfully and yet still understand what she is going through. Anne is afraid of what is happening outside and that causes her to think about what will happen to her and her family if they are ever found out by anyone. Anne has been getting more used to her new home but there is one person she may never get used to, and that is Mrs Van Daan: "I had just written something about Mrs. Van Daan when she came in. Slap! I closed the book. "Hey, Anne, can't I just have a look?"
"I'm afraid not." Naturally it gave me a frightful shock, because there was an unflattering description of her on this particular page" (Frank 29). Another confrontation between these too was: "Come along, Anne, have a few more vegetables," (Frank 31,32). She had taken a minute helping of vegetables herself. But she is not spoiled! Oh, no, too many vegetables in the evening make her constipated." Simple confrontations like these is what drives Anne over and up the wall. Anne even with many people with her in the annex can often feel alone in the entire world and can cause her to bottle up her feelings and go crazy. Maybe, just maybe soon she will release all of her emotions and no one will know what to say or do but try and make it better. Which Anne doesn't want. She doesn't want anyone to feel bad or sorry for her. Even in this short span of 75 pages you can tell that she has change both mentally and how she views everything that she comes across.

  1. As you can tell Anne seems to be getting very frustrated even ballistic at this point with her family and the others that are inside of the annex.Ever since Anne and her family has stepped inside the annex Anne doesn't want anyone to find out about her mental state, and she doesn't want them feeling terrible or sorry for her. As of now Anne has been keeping her feelings inside herself and locks out anyone who might try to help her. What do you think Anne will do about her feelings, will she continue to keep them bottled up? Will she explode like a firework?

    1. That is a good question,Tyler. Guessing from Saturday, 30 January, 1943's entry, where she writes, "I'm boiling with rage, but I mustn't show it," I'm going to guess that she may hold them in until something comes and really ticks her off, and then she'll just explode at everything and everyone. But I feel like that may raise another question: When and what might cause Anne to go off?

  2. I also agree with Alex, that she will keep them all inside of her for the time being and continue to write her thoughts and feelings in her diary. I also think if she shares her feelings it will only be to one person that she really trusts. To answer Alex's question, I think she will finally explode defiantly near the end of the book when they are trapped in the annex for a long time with the same people. What might make her go off might be her family or the people that are in the annex.

  4. I agree with all of your comments that Anne's feelings towards the people she lives with on an everyday basis. She lives in the annex with many people that she doesn't know and I feel as if that makes her feelings more negative. Even though these feelings can still be there negatively she keeps them bottled up and that definetly can end badly. What way do you guys think she will explode and her will be her target?
