What Is The Theme?
Theme is debatable the most important part of the story, it tells readers what the entire story is about and can even teach a life lesson. An example of theme inside a story would be courage or bravery in the diary of Anne Frank.
With courage you can tackle any obstacle that is thrown your way. One text that explains that is: "It is as if the whole word had turned upside down. But I am still alive" (Frank 13). This text perfectly explains how Anne's mood has changed into a more serious or courageous person, knowing that she must change because the world around her is changing.
Another thing bravery can teach you is that you can never be stopped by a problem or a conflict and that if you put your mind to it you can take it down. One thing that Anne's dad tells her is:
""Make the most of your carefree young life while you can." That was all. Oh, may the fulfillment of these somber words remain far distant years!" (Frank 13).
This sentence alone expresses how Anne's world and life will change and that she recognizes it and that those words will always be there for her. Anne powered through the tough years in the annex with courage. If she was scared the entire way she and everyone else would not have made it through.

To summarize up the theme of Anne Frank is that if a person was bravery they can do anything they put their mind to. Even in real life you see courage everyday even if it is something as simple as answering a question in class to joining the armed forces. What do you think would have changed if Anne's family did not have courage? Do you think anyone else in the story had courage? What other themes did you find while reading Anne Frank?
I think that if Anne and her family didn't have courage throughout the annex that they wouldn't get caught, that they would've easily got caught at a young age and maybe even die at a young age. I also believe that Anne's diary wouldn't have gone on as long as it did. I believe that the Jews outside of the annex that weren't talked about had to have the courage to maybe stay out of hiding or not have many people to help them out. I think that Dussel and the Van Daan's had the courage and bravery to move into hiding with people they didn't know. I had many themes to choose from the story such as, maturity, love, hope, and many more but I chose internalization. i think that internalizing yourself can make you lose contact wit loved ones and bottle all your feelings up to the point where you can do something that you will regret.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of stuff to answer, Tyler. I think that without courage, Anne and her family would have let themselves be taken by the Nazis instead of going into hiding way back in 1942. I think some of the people that had courage were the Van Daans, all the people that helped them while in hiding, and Winston Churchill. My theme was hope, or as I put it, "Hope can give someone the will to live during even the hardest of times," and you can go read all about that on my blog post.
ReplyDeleteI think that if Anne and her family didnt have courage that they would not have made it through this time in their lives where they are in constant danger. I also think that Peter had courage, to stay in hiding and have a more relaxed attitude considering the situation that they were in. I also think that one of the other themes in the book is love, and how her perspective of other people has changed, and that she cares a lot more about those people now.
